Mental health and wellbeing has become increasingly important, with companies investing more and more in providing their employees with the right level of support to prevent burnout and attrition. However, amidst all this progress, there's a concerning issue that often goes unaddressed: the fair compensation and support of the very practitioners who provide these essential services.
Recently, we’ve seen a growing trend from therapists and coaches in the industry expressing frustration that despite the significant funding their platforms have secured, they are not seeing this reflected in their paychecks.
At Unmind, we believe that the quality of mental health care is directly linked to how well we treat and support our practitioners, and it is at the core of everything we do.
Why fair compensation matters
Mental health professionals are the backbone of our industry. They dedicate their lives to helping others, often working long hours and managing emotionally taxing workloads. Despite the critical nature of their work, many practitioners find themselves underpaid, overworked, and undervalued. This is especially troubling when companies in our space secure massive funding rounds, yet fail to pass those benefits on to the people who matter most.
Unmind is the only mental health start up with a clinical psychologist at the helm. We’ve heavily invested in a diverse Science team that includes experts in clinical, organizational, positive, and counseling psychology, many of whom are practicing clinicians. From the outset, we’ve recognized that our mission to transform mental health and wellbeing globally can only be realized if we take care of our practitioners as they take care of their clients. That’s why we’re committed to a review of our payment rates in an effort to ensure we remain competitive, as well as ensuring fast payments, providing the tools our practitioners need to thrive.
How Unmind is leading the way
To further our commitment to supporting our practitioners, we’ve recently released a set of new features designed to give them more control over their schedule and payments.
1. Enhanced payment management
Managing payments can be stressful, especially when you have a full schedule of clients to attend to. To make this easier, we've made it easier for practitioners to let us know when a session hasn't taken place and why, to ensure they are paid when a client cancels late or doesn't show.
We've brought more transparency over payments into the platform, connecting sessions delivered to payments made.
2. Improved calendar management
Time is a precious resource, and we want to help practitioners make the most of it. We're working to improve Unmind’s calendar function to ensure practitioners can easily manage their schedule, allowing them to maximize their time helping clients, doing the work they love (and of course, getting paid!)
To achieve this, we’re adding instant book slots- allowing practitioners to set up slots for employees to directly book sessions, reducing back and forth friction of finding mutually available times.
We're also going to be introducing automatic calendar syncs, to bring more ease of management for those working across multiple providers to ensure there are no calendar clashes and syncing of events.
Unmind’s commitment to quality and care
Unmind is here to transform mental health and wellbeing for companies across the world. We care about our clients, our practitioners, and the quality of service we provide. While the landscape may be competitive, we remain steadfast in our belief that fair compensation and support are non-negotiable.
We’ve seen firsthand that when providers invest in their practitioners, the return on investment is substantial—not just in financial terms, but in the quality of care provided to clients.
