About
Entain is one of the world’s largest gaming groups, with offices in Europe, Oceania, Asia, and America. With a commitment to innovation and customer-centricity, it has become a leader in its field. To maintain its position Entain recognized that supporting its people was as crucial as serving its customers.
As the company expanded globally, the need for a comprehensive mental health and wellbeing solution became clear. This led to a strategic partnership with Unmind, helping Entain nurture a healthier, more resilient workforce.
Problem
With over 25,000 employees across five continents, Entain recognized a crucial link between manager communication and employee wellbeing. A global survey revealed that regular, open, and authentic conversations between managers and their teams significantly reduced employee burnout. However, scaling manager training to address these needs across a vast, international workforce posed a challenge. Entain needed a solution to equip its managers with the skills to foster better mental health conversations and create a culture of psychological safety.
Solution
In 2022, Entain partnered with Unmind to roll out the Workplace of Tomorrow manager training program, initially targeting the retail population. The training focused on building managerial skills in handling mental health conversations, addressing colleague distress, and fostering high-performing, healthy teams. Managers accessed over 40 bite-sized videos and resources that covered organizational, clinical, and positive psychology, as well as in-depth virtual events led by wellbeing experts.
Stella Gavinho, Group Head of Wellbeing, explained:
“We want to create a culture of psychological safety and trust, and Unmind Manager Training is a huge step in the right direction.”
The positive results from the initial retail rollout encouraged Entain to extend the training globally in 2023, making it mandatory for all managers across the company. The phased implementation, spanning various locations and business areas, ensured that each region could complete the training in line with their business schedules. By integrating Unmind into Entain’s Learning Management System (LMS) with Single Sign-On (SSO), managers could easily access training content from any device.
Jessica Fitz-John, Group Senior Wellbeing Manager, noted:
“Having a localized approach to the global rollout of Unmind’s manager training was very effective in ensuring everyone was on board and the training had a meaningful impact.”
Outcome
The results from Unmind’s “Workplace of Tomorrow” training were immediate and impactful. Over 94% of Entain’s managers worldwide completed the training, with 97% of them reporting that they found it helpful. Additionally, 73% of managers took action post-course, making positive changes to benefit their teams. This equates to over 2,200 managers implementing improvements.
Key outcomes included:
• 68% of managers took steps to support their own or others’ mental health shortly after completing the course.
• 82% of managers experienced a positive outcome as a result of the training.
• Managers noted a 33.1% improvement in their roles post-training.
Stella Gavinho emphasized the long-term value of the training:
“Our aim was to equip all our managers with the basic skills to foster a culture of psychological safety, ultimately contributing to happier and better-performing teams.”
Encouraged by the results, Entain views Unmind’s manager training as a crucial part of its business strategy, incorporating wellbeing discussions into performance reviews and other key employee interactions. Moving forward, Entain plans to leverage workforce data from Unmind to further enhance its wellbeing initiatives, focusing on specific areas such as neurodiversity and the menopause.
