That’s because 82% of new leaders haven’t taken comprehensive training – they’re ‘accidental’ bosses promoted based on competency, not people management skills.

On top of this, modern leaders are busy, stressed and burning out. With many expected to perform managerial duties on top of their existing roles, they have some of the poorest wellbeing scores across organizations.

This is coming at a huge price: bad bosses drive 27% less revenue per employee, with a lack of leadership capability costing US corporations up to $630bn annually in lost productivity and turnover-related costs.

Closing the leadership skills gap

To put our training to the test, Unmind conducted one of the first scientific trials of accessible, online leadership training focusing on skills around mental health and wellbeing. This gold-standard randomized control trial (RCT) recruited 300 leaders from private and public sector industries (legal, IT, government, finance).

This report presents the research behind the crucial connection between leaders and employee wellbeing, the skills gap holding leaders back, and how this can be solved to drive sustainable high performance using expert support and tech innovation.
