Inside Unmind: Meet the Operations and Finance teams

Sarah Margetson, Operations Lead, and David Kay, Finance Director, give us the inside scoop on life at Unmind. 

In the previous post in this series, we touched on the technology that underpins Unmind and our plans to develop the platform in 2020. Before that, we looked into the science, psychology, and content at the core of our offering. Now we draw our attention to the teams that make all of this possible.

For those joining us here, Unmind is a workplace platform that combines clinical psychology with innovative technology to help employees measurably improve their mental health.

This works on two levels. First, it helps your people lead more healthy, fulfilled and productive lives. Second, businesses enjoy all the economic benefits of improving absence, presenteeism and staff turnover rates.

We partner with some of the country’s most iconic brands such as British Airways, John Lewis, and ASOS, to proactively support their teams’ mental health.

Thanks to these clients, our brilliant team, and a society that’s waking up to the importance of supporting mental health, we’re super excited to have just secured a Series A round of funding.

Now we’re hiring – with a huge focus on Finance and Operations.

Operations is, by nature, for the doers. It’s the work that goes on behind the scenes; the iceberg of planning, people and process upon which our customer facing product and brand sit. It’s in that spirit that we’ll continue.

We asked Sarah Margeton, Operations Lead, and David Kay, Finance Director, about life at Unmind.

Oh hullo Sarah! So what attracted you to working at Unmind?

Sarah 1

Sarah: From my own experience and those of my loved ones, our workplaces have a huge role to play in our mental health. Unmind is tangibly changing attitudes at work for the better while helping countless employees proactively manage their mental health every day; choosing to join the team was a very easy decision!

How about you, David?

Dave 1

David: When I first spoke to Ry and Dr Nick and heard what they and the team had built in the first two years of Unmind, I was truly blown away by the mission and the momentum the company had. The opportunity to join at an early stage and contribute to this was extremely attractive.

What do both you like most about working at Unmind?

Dave 1

David: It’s been said before, but the team here are exceptional and make coming to work each day a pleasure. Knowing that what the company is doing is genuinely helping to change attitudes towards mental health is very rewarding.

Sarah 1

Sarah: Definitely the people I get to work with every day. We’re all incredibly high performing individuals but at the same time operate as a group of really decent human beings – it’s a delight to spend my week with them!

What’s on the horizon for Operations in 2020 at Unmind, Sarah?

Sarah 1

Sarah: 2020 is such an exciting year for us, and the Operations team really sit at the heart of our big plans to provide Unmind to as many people as possible; from planning our internationalisation to developing our team of Unminders – which is set to double!

And what’s in store for Finance, David?

Dave 1

David: It feels like we are just at the beginning of the journey and with the recent Series A funding there is a huge opportunity for growth ahead of us, which will keep the finance team very busy!

Any words of advice for those considering joining Unmind?

Sarah 1

Sarah: Deciding to join Unmind is genuinely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I spend my time working towards solving one the biggest issues facing society, with a team of brilliant and compassionate people, in a beautiful office - if this sounds like something you’d enjoy, definitely don’t hesitate to say hello!
